Death is a normal thing all over the world. It is not a strange thing when someone dies in today's society, however, the effects brought about by the demise of loved ones are what has made many people entirely hate death and wish that it never strikes their family members.
After losing the loved ones in some parts of Kenya, the agony to buy a coffin to give the deceased a decent send off begins. In some communities like in West Pokot county,it is and has been a taboo to make or sell a coffin in region.Thereis no coffin workshop in West pokot.
In Kenya, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) have identified and listed some of the hardship counties, these counties include; Mandera, Wajir, Samburu, Narok, Tana River, Turkana and West Pokot. These areas are characterised by lack of basic social services and amenities, security risks and harsh climatic conditions like long periods of droughts.
During the colonial period, the village elders prohibited the making of coffins in the area in order to drive away the "soul of death." This is a ban that has been passed down from generation to generation, forcing family and friends to travel from West Pocot to neighboring Trans Nzoia County to buy coffins just in case.

Tragedy at Kitoyo area in West Pokot county. The reason being that an aged Grany has commited suicide by slitting her throat. Going by the reports, the body of the deceased was found lying on a pool of blood, behind her house. The deceased's names are Ripongura Chepotula Chemworan, 51.
