According to news hitting the air waves just now, preliminary results show that Kirinyaga county Governor Anne Waiguru is winning the county's top seat. In a report by The Star journalist Oliver Mathenge, the county's returning officer has announced that Waiguru has won though a recount has been ordered in Kianyaga polling station.

In Kirinyaga, police had to fire tear gas to disperse a crowd of demonstrators who were ostensibly supporting Wangui Ngirici's bid for an independent governorship. This comes after the throng attempted to storm the Kianyaga High School-based counting facility for the Gichugu constituency. The violence allegedly began when a presiding officer attempted to cut in front of the officers in the long line they had created to transport the voting results to the counting center, according to Geoffrey Gitobu, the constituency's returning officer.
Ngirici and Waiguru are having a tough competition amongst themselves, in as much as they are both eyeing the Gubernatorial sit, one of them will be declared the winner at the end of the day. If Purity Ngirici is to be elected as Governor of Kirinyaga county, this will not be received well by Anne Waiguru supporters.

Karua had claimed that Ngirici had won the Kirinyaga governorship, but it turns out she was mistaken. Twitter fact checkers have already flagged her tweet saying the Kirinyaga gubernatorial results are yet to be called by IEBC .
