Timely fee payment by students is one of the key factors that keep Kenyan Universities running due to limited funding they receive from the government. As result, institutions of higher learning in kenya have come up with several policies to encourage early fee payment. Some schools use unit cost policies while others do not allow students with fee balances to sit for exams.
Uasin Gishu based institution of higher learning, Moi University, is on the spot for grappling with huge financial deficit which has resulted to inefficient performance occasioned by frequent strikes by lecturers. Reports show that the university has accrued debts totalling Ksh. 4.5 billions. This is due to decreased income from privately sponsored students as well ballooning expenses that result from managing many satellite institutions that the university had.
At a special meeting held on 3rd November 2021, Moi University senate resolved that learning activities and teaching to resume. The students were therefore are informed that lectures will begin on Monday 8th 2021 and should make there own arrangements so that the be at school before then.

Fresh students who started reporting to the public university from Monday 20th September 2021 will pay Sh19,635 for a room shared by two students per semester up from the Sh2,835 that UoN has been charging at its main campus.

The University of Nairobi has responded to a letter by Education CS George Magoha to suspend all radical reforms made by the University. In the letter the university has vowed that it will go ahead with the reforms it had announced early this month.
