Former councilors will get Ksh 2.6 billion as a one-time gratuity from Treasury in the upcoming financial year. It was proposed by the councilors to give them Ksh.22 billion in gratuity and monthly installments, but the Treasury rejected the idea. Treasury CS Ukur Yattani, appearing before the Senate Labour Committee, however, said the councilors will have to wait until at least the next financial year due to difficult economic circumstances.
Councillors are set to receive Ksh2.6 billion from the Treasury at the beginning of next year's financial year. The Treasury stated that 328 former Councillors who served for over 4 terms will be paid Ksh664, 000 each in a one-off payment. They also added that 11,919 Councillors that served for less than 4 terms will also be paid Ksh200,000 each.
Today, Twitter has been awash with claims and allegations that the son of the current Cabinet Secretary for Finance Ukur Yattani was on Friday last week seized at Jomo Kenyatta with huge amounts of money while enroute to Dubai. The allegations emanated from blogger Cyprian, Is Nyakundi who tweeted, "Treasury CS Ukur Yattani's son Ibrae arrested with 4 million US$ in cash at JKIA destined to Dubai on Friday."
