The University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor Stephen Kiama has been saved from a possible six-month jail sentence after the Court of Appeal suspended proceedings of the contempt of court case. Professor Stephen Kiama Prof Kiama is to appear before Employment and Labour Relations Court judge Maureen Onyango on January 27 for sentencing for violating the court order that stopped restructuring process of the university's top management but can now relax following the appellate court decision.

The first year students reporting yesterday, 20th September 2021 will now be forced to dig deep into their pockets to afford paying Ksh19,635 for accommodation fee for a room shared by two students per semester from the previous Ksh 2,835.

Amongst the present were 3 vice chancellors from private universities boards, National Assembly Education Committee, University Funding board,National treasury, public universities chancellor Stephen Kiama and university education PS Simon Nabukwesi.They seemed to be supporting the comrades power.They made a u turn for University of Nairobi action.This however seems valid as the government should provide tertiary education at a fair price such that everyone can afford.This becomes a motivation to other highschool students and even parents.The corona virus pandemic also brought alot of challenges,many parents lost jobs,others starting from scratch.The economy is now so high this the government should also consider that.Hon.Babu Owino,who has been known of speaking for comrades also reacted to this and said that the government should instead provide free education.Fee should not be increased but maybe reduced.Some citizens also reacted to his facebook page,others,claiming that the education fee is expensive and it even expensive for them to pursue further studies.The public and students were therefore happy and grateful for how the ministry of education reacted.They can now embark back to their studies without much pressure.
