The Kakamega high court grants the Sarrai group green light to continue with operations.

The uganda-based conglomerate Sarai group has received green light from the court to proceed with operations in the take over of Mumia's sugar company. Earlier this month, the Sarai group overturned an earlier order suspending its lease award from Mumias sugar company. The Sarai group had moved to court under a certificate of urgency on January 3rd to challenge the ruling of the court over its management

The long awaited hope by Mumias Sugar Company farmers and shareholders was short-lived after the Court Suspended the Uganda-based Sarrai group from continuing with the operations. This came after several individuals a d bodies filed cases stopping haulting the operations at the company until the tussle is resolved. Yesterday , the court released another bad news to the company after a landmark ruling.

Mumias sugar Land factory owners have urged the new investors sarrai group to review the lease terms and engage them in talks to extend the lease contracts. Media personality Mac Otani has allegedly revealed that Serrai group has a strong presence in the sugar industry in Uganda,but not in Kenya.He further added that the group’s sugar production includes Kinyara Sugar, Hoima Sugar and Kiryandongo Sugar with all three based in Uganda. Media personality Mac Otani further revealed that the sugar factory rented close to twenty two square miles of the contested Bugoma central forest reserve land from the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom for sugarcane growing for 99 years.

The Sarrai group has been ordered to vacate the premises of Mumias sugar company after the high court canceled its lease. The ruling has also seen (PVR) Rao removed as an administrator with immediate effect. According to the court, the listing meant Mumia's sugar would remain an asset to (KCB) and would not be able to repay creditors.
