Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) chairperson Omboko Milemba questioned the ministry of education move to give students Half-term break following unrest that has been seen in schools this term. Speaking to citizen TV on Day Break Emuhaya Member of Parliament said half-term break is good for student but warned that it is risk if trend continues because the students will take over the management.
The government of Kenya through the ministry of education yesterday heeded to heads of schools call to allow a halfterm break as a way of solving school unrest. About 41 schools have been reported to experience cases of fire in Second term. Education experts says it's due to the demands that are caused with a crush Programme introduced to cope with challenges posed by outbreak of covid-19.
County directors of education are one of the factors that are believed to be the cause of the recent and many fires and strikes that have been witnessed in many schools in the country over years. Teachers have rejected a directive by their employer to undergo retraining terming the costs of the programme as unreasonable. Through the Kenya Union of Post Primary Teachers (KUPPET), teachers have petitioned Parliament to halt the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) directive, stating that the Ksh6,000 training fee is too high.
Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is the only Commission in Kenya that is mandated to recruit, discipline, promote and remunerate teachers.
