Alexander Munyi Mundigi, who fuelled his campaigns with donations and handouts from well-wishers, was declared Embu senator-elect beating a governor, his deputy and even a former principal secretary to win the seat. Mundigi of the Democratic Party (DP) garnered 81,162, beating his closest challenger, outgoing deputy governor David Kariuki who vied on a UDA ticket.
