The attack happened at Kapkobil grazing field where 60 heavily armed bandits suspected to be from their neighbouring county where they took hundreds of livestock. The Elgeyo Marakwet County Police Commander, Patrick Lumumba stated that the bandits ambushed the herders by shooting them with live bullets.

The government of Kenya is planning to construct highway in Kerio valley at a cost cost of Ksh14.4 billion.They will start the construction in January as the government moves to open the region to investment and ease response in emergency situations. Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) said that the 124.5km road will connect Barppelo, Tot, Chesego and Marich.The road will also link West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet and Baringo counties.The contract of this road was awarded to a Chinese company China Railway Seventh Group and a local contractor Three N International, respectively.
