Kenyans have elicited mixed reactions after a group of residents allegedly from Kiambu County come out to decry justice over their land, which was earmarked to build Mama Ngina University. According to a section of Mutomo Village in Kiambu, they were promised that they were to be allowed to build some structures in the area which in return made them surrender their land.
A court case involving the Kenyatta family and the residents of Gatundu South has this Wednesday been pushed forward after the required respondents failed to show up as expected. This comes at a time when Gatundu locals took to court to call for the stoppage of the Kenyatta family from acquiring their land to set up a university.
Mama Ngina University was seeking to have an expansion to happen in Gatundu but the landowners in the place were opposed to the idea that they would have to give up their land for the expansion of the popular university. More than 2,500 families in Mutomo area, Gatundu South, Kiambu County, have opposed an attempt to relocate them to accommodate the expansion of Mama Ngina University. The families have gone to court claiming they were not consulted before the government reached a decision to relocate them from a total of 100 acres of land.

Mama Ngina University as it has been named will be open to admitting students in September this year according to Education Cabinet secretary Prof George Magoha.It is located in Gatundu South sub county, Kiambu county and is a constituent of the iconic Kenyatta University. Magoha was speaking at Mutomo primary school when he announced the news.He praised the progress of the construction of the varsity which began in 2016 and is now complete.The institution will offer three programmes in Hospitality, Environmental Studies and Information Communication Technology.
There is a relief to parents who have children in boarding schools. They have been in an uncomfortable situation after the proposal of the abolishment of the boarding schools program. On a report presented by the competence based curriculum taskforce, they proposed on abolishing boarding schools immediately so as the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) to take place.
Mama Ngina University which has been under construction since 2016 is set to officially open in September 2021 as it was announced by the CS Prof George Magoha.Magoha stated that the university is intending to admit 90 students for the next academic year even though the university has been admitting students who have been studying at Kenyatta University campuses.

Education ministry has established another institution and named before mother of Uhuru Kenyatta ,Mama Ngina Kenyatta for the purpose of Uhuru backyard being developed at Gatundu.
