Source:Education News Today the ministry of education principal secretary(PS), announced the changes in the academic calendar for 2020-2023 academic year, by reintroducing midterm break for second term which was not originally in the timetable. According to the principal secretary, the decision was arrived at after a series of student unrest which was witnessed in various secondary schools in the country which has lead to disruption of learning activities.
Among the top performing schools in the south rift region is the famous Kipsigis girls high school. The school which is located within Kericho county was recently affected by the teachers service commission new changes. The autonomous body shifted the school's principal to a nearby one and replaced her with another.
A couple of days ago the students of Kipsigis Girls in Uasin Gishu Country decided to stage a demonstration following the transfer of their principal Madam Juliana Kirui. Kipsigis Girls high school in Kericho County has today been closed indefinitely and students ordered to go home until further notice following unrest among the students today according to a Facebook post by Martin Kosgey at around 12.30 pm. The post read “students home! Kipsigis Girls High School in Kericho Closed until further notice.” Earlier on Kosgey also shared a video of the students on Facebook rioting in the streets of Kericho town at 4 am today while protesting against their new principal.

"The school is closed. We will inform you when you will report back," she said after addressing students. The closure followed an incident where students stormed out of the school at dawn and walked three kilometres to protest the transfer of long-serving principal Juliana Kirui.
Litein Boys High School in Bureti sub county has been closed indefinitely after students went on rampage last night. According to Litein location chief Moses Mutai, the students went on rampage to protest over what they termed as high handedness of the school administration among other complaints. Mutai said the students damaged several school properties including classroom and dormitory window panes, computers and assaulted some school watchmen.

The school was founded in 1955 as an African Girls Boarding school with a student population of one hundred and forty.
