Tension remains high along Kerio Valley in Elgeyo Marakwet following a twin banditry attack which left two people with serious gun wounds and hundreds of livestock stolen. The afternoon attacks simultaneously happened at the dreaded Kapkobil area in Marakwet East sub county and a few kilometres away at Arror in Marakwet West near St Benedict Arror Girls Secondary school.
Kerio Valley is bleeding. Our people are on weekly basis losing lives and property. Even though the citizens and their leaders have been working hard in pursuit of peace, the reality is that government officials in charge of security have abdicated their duties and left the people at the mercy of bandits.
The residents of Kerio Valley on the boundary of Elgeiyo-Marakwet and Baringo Counties usually go to work on their farms in the 100- acre Tot-Koloa irrigation scheme hoping to get better yields. However, bandit attacks and cattle rustling his hindered their activities for the past six years that has seen the Sh 300 million scheme go to waste as it would have brought food security and harmony in the area.
