The former students sued the institution after failing to secure jobs with an engineering degree awarded to them by the University as it is not recognized by Engineers Board of Kenya ( EBK ).

They contended that the degrees they achieved are not perceived by the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) delivering them unemployable. The parcel joined the then Kenya Polytechnic in 2009 which was as yet a constituent school of the University of Nairobi (UoN).
