Ahead of the August 9 general election, numerous media outlets conducted polls across the country on various political positions to identify the likely winners in governor, senatorial, and other positions. Julius Malombe and Charity Ngilu, the leader of the Narc party, will compete for the county of Kitui.
Charity Ngilu has given latest indication that she might not defend her Kitui gubernatorial seat. This is after hinting that she might work with David Musila to ensure they have a resounding win. Currently the top contenders for Kitui gubernatorial seat are: Julius Malombe (Wiper Party), Charity Ngilu (Narc Kenya), John Mueke (UDA) and David Musila (Jubilee).
TIFA, well known research institution has this evening distanced itself from the viral opinion poll going round on various social media platforms showing the most popular gubernatorial and presidential candidates in Ukambani. TIFA has termed the opinion poll as FAKE and hence does not whatsoever emanate from their sources.
The Wiper party has now been sued for refusing to hold nominations for the Kitui governor race and opting to issue a direct ticket instead. The party has given its ticket to former Governor Julius Malombe, who was floored by current governor Charity Ngilu in the previous general poll.
The Kitui gubertorial contest has attracted over five powerful and experienced politicians ready to wrestle down incumbent Governor Charity Ngilu in being the new county boss from August general elections. In an opinion poll conducted by the Wiper Democratic Movement of Kalonzo Musyoka with the aim of settling on who to give the party ticket following the over three candidates fighting for the Wiper party ticket, former governor emerged the winner with a landslide.
Governor Charity Ngilu made history in 2017 after winning a male dominated race and becoming one among the three elected women governors in Kenya. The other two pioneer women governors were Anne Waiguru of Kirinyanga and the late Joyce Laboso of Bomet. Ngilu won by 162,768 votes followed closely by the then Kitui senator David Musila who garnered 109,783 votes.
Charity Ngilu has been dealt a huge setback just four months before the August 9th election. After the Wiper party granted former governor Julius Malombe a straight ticket to dethrone Ngilu from office, Ngilu faces a major re-election fight. Remember that the UDA party also has Jonathan Mweke, who is a regional force, complicating the governor's chances.

Charity Ngilu on Monday with other Azimio La Umoja coalition women leaders during the forum endorsed Martha Karua to deputise Raila Odinga. The two coalitions are moving with the speed to name their running mate candidates to beat the IEBC dateline. According to the IEBC, all the Presidential candidates and Governors should named their running mates before 28 of April 2022.
