In the recently finished general election, controversial preacher Bishop David Kariuki Ngare lost the parliamentary contest in Thika Town. Bishop Ngare, also known as Gakuyo, ran on the Jubilee Party ticket of President Uhuru Kenyatta and received 26,637 votes. She was defeated by former local MP Alice Ng'ang'a, who ran on the ticket of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) led by Deputy President William Ruto, who received 59,575 votes.
