Sounds of gunfire rent the air in Kisumu’s central business district this afternoon, sending panic stricken residents scampering for dear life after an armed police officer opened fire on a suspicious motor vehicle. The reverberating sound of gunfire caught many residents who were going about their business by surprise, as the besieged driver of the vehicle later identified as James Njonjo Mue, tried to escape the onslaught launched by the lone officer who unleashed fire at the vehicle, deflating two of its tyres.
Charles Njonjo served as the first African attorney general from 1963 to 1979 and later served as the minister of constitutional affairs during the late president Moi's era. He was born in 1920 and is currently 102 years old. Charles Njonjo was reported to have died yesterday, in a Twitter post that belonged to the former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, at the age of 102 years.
