A story is told of one traditional Kikuyu woman who was so selfish on matters food that one day she decided that whenever she cooks porridge, even her own husband would not have a taste of it. So, every time that the husband would ask for a cup of porridge, the woman would lie to him that the porridge had spilled over from the pot while cooking as she knew Kikuyu men do not take such porridge.
In today's Mashujaa Day Celebrations that were held in Kirinyaga County, the first prayers were done nby the Agikuyu Traditional elders. They elsders were dressed in the brown cultural attire. In their prayers they kept uttering the phrase, "Thai Thathaiya Ngai Thai," after every petition.
Nowadays it's common to see a young child sitted while an elder person struggles to stand for too long.It could be on public transport or any other place where the sitting space is limited.
On 10th October 2020, hundreds of Kikuyu elders graced ODM leader Raila Odinga backyard where they endorsed him as Uhuru’s successor. During the visit, tradition had its way with the elders donning brown attires with a few white cowries’ shells and beads imprints. In Kikuyu land, this specific dressing code is common among elders and reserved for traditional undertakings. The biggest question among Kenyans has been why does the garment has to be brown? According to Gikuyu Centre for Cultural Studies,
