Why Juliana Cherera Resigned
Days after President William Ruto suspended Juliana Cherera and three other commissioners from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), she announced her resignation. Following Justus Nyang'aya's decision to retire last Friday, Cherera is the second commissioner to submit her resignation. President Ruto stated in Special Gazette Notice Number 258 that "The mandate of the tribunal shall be to consider the petition for the removal of Members of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) (1) Juliana Whonge Cherera, (2) Francis Mathenge Wanderi, (3) Irene Cherop Masit, and (4) Justus Abonyo Nyang'aya from office and to inquire into the allegations therein."
