Fuel prices across the country will remain unchanged for the next one month, the energy regulator declared after solving the issue with the government. The government has indicated that they will have to impose taxes on products from the companies. If effected this option S affected the prices of commodities will rise exponentially, as manufacturers will pass on the additional cost of the commodities to the end-users.
From this month, Kenyans are set to dig deeper in to their pockets to pay more for electricity bills after EPRA announced increase in the cost of thermal production due to poor rains during the March-May season. A publication by the Standard reports that the drop in rains resulted to reduced amounts of hydro-electricity, making thermal plants to use a lot of fuel to generate the power.
On Saturday, a tanker carrying fuel collided with a lorry that was ferrying milk and exploded leaving 15 people dead and 24 nursing injuries. The incident occurred at Malanga village in Gem, Siaya County. Most of the victims were injured as they tried to siphon an explosive fuel from the tanker which had one compartment open.
Deputy President William Ruto has demanded the government to crush cartels at the Ministry of Petroleum believed to have initiated the hike in fuel prices for their own benefit. Taking to his Twitter account on Tuesday, October 12, Ruto gave the cartels an ultimatum to reverse the decisions made among them to award the cost per litre of fuel to private companies believed to have led to the historic spike in fuel costs that have brought the country to its knees.
It's a sigh of relief to Kenyans, after the Energy and Petroleum Authority announced that the fuel prices for this month of April and the next month of may to remain constant.In a statement released by the energy and Petroleum Authority on Wednesday 14th, said that the decision was reached in order to cushion the consumers and other stakeholders like investigators in the Petroleum sector.
