The First Black Woman To Travel Into Space

In 1992 the space hosted a real beauty with brains after Jemison (pictured above) became the first African American woman to travel into space at the age of 36. Mae Carol Jemison was born on October 17, 1956 in Decatur, Alabama. The youngest of three children, her mother was an elementary school teacher while her father was a maintenance supervisor.
