Competency Based Curriculum is a new system of education in Kenya. It was launched by the ministry of education in 2017. CBC emphasizes on the development of skills and knowledge and the application of those skills in real life. The Competency based curriculum is divided into three different levels; Early Years Education, Middle School Education and the Senior School Education.
The Competency-Base Curriculum has offlate received alot of negative responses from parents particularly. This is because of some practical activities they have been told to do in helping their children. The CBC carriculum was drafted by the Kenya Institute of Carriculum Development and was initiated four years ago after being approved by the ministry of education.
The Competency Base Curriculum 2-6-3-3-3 is here with us and it is expected to reach at the University level by the year 2029. According to the ongoing Competency Base Curriculum program, their first group of learners will be ready to join University by the year 2029. In the same year, the current 8-4-4 system shall be taking form four learners into the university.This can give the Universities hard time if they don't prepare earlier since there will be double intake in the year 2029.
