For the past decades, Kenyan has been operating on 844 system of education. In the system, learners could spend 8 years in primary school, 4 years in Secondary School and 4 years at the University level hence the name 844. The system has however faced lots of criticism from scholars, some stakeholders and some employment agencies most of whom who claimed that the system produced half baked products who were not ready and fit to handle job sectors.
Teachers have had lots of unrest and cries due to several factors affecting their profession. To start with, the Government through the CS of education, Prof Magoha has confirmed that CBC implementation is there to stay. Now, teachers are the key implementors of the program and from what most of them have said, the training given about CBC Implementation is quite shallow and the teachers have no idea of what they are to do.
The pioneers of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) are now at grade 5. Come next year May, they will be in grade six which is the final class in primary school. Grade 6 will end on December of 2022 and that means on January of 2023, the CBC pioneer class will be in junior secondary.
The government of the Republic of Kenya had in good faith thought that changing the current 8-4-4 system could help it realize its dream of providing education to all, and hugging you the specialization .type of education to help implementing the agenda of manufacturing within Kenya as put in the Jubilee 2017 manifesto.
