Despite unifying efforts of AMISOM forces, SNA and the US soldiers to end militia existence in Somalia, Al-Shabaab has continued to pose threats to the security inside Somalia and her neighboring countries including Kenya, Ethiopia and even Uganda. Occasionally, though severely weakened, the militia force carries out attacks on civilians, security forces and even the administrative organs of Somalia.

User Security has been intensified in terror-prone Boni forest in Lamu following Tuesday’s suspected Al-Shabaab attack that left one Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldier nursing serious injuries. A statement from KDF Spokesperson Esther Wanjiku privy to Opera News Hub on Tuesday evening indicated that the KDF soldier was injured when a vehicle they were traveling in ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) suspected to have been planted on the road by the militants between Milimani and Baure area in Lamu’s Boni forest.

One soldier was critically injured and five others sustained light injuries when a truck carrying Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers was hit by an improvised explosive device in Boni, Lamu County. According to the Kenya Defence Forces, the group was on normal patrol between Milimani and Baure in Lamu County when they came upon an IED strike carried out by suspected al-Shabaab terrorists.The injured troops were flown to Nairobi by plane for more treatment.
