Undeclared Gold And Jewellery Worth Millions Of Money Intercepted At JKIA

KRA Customs officers last night intercepted approximately 4.88 kilograms of undeclared gold and jewellery worth Ksh 31 million that meant for smuggling through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The Customs Officers stationed at JKIA identified a group of approximately 30 female Kenyan travellers who were departing from Nairobi to Mumbai, India through Doha.

According to sources the travellers havd been directly linked with other three female travellers who were intercepted earlier entering Mumbai Airport with approximate 1 kg of gold which concealed internally on 19th August, 2021.

Now KRA is encouraging passengers to declare all cargo/items at the Ports of entry and exit as per the requirement under the provisions of the Second and Third Schedules of the EAC Customs Management Act, 2004.

It was not disclosed on what measures were taken agaist the women. It is not clear whether they were detained or they were freed. And if they were detained sources didn't indicate whether there will be any judges lebeled agaist them.
