Kenya is a country that is growing at a higher pace. Its the regional economic giant and a superpower in east and central Africa. However, Kenya has only three classified cities. For a regional economic giant like Kenya, more than ten cities should be encompassed within its locality. Well, Nairobi is the capital city of Kenya. Its the largest city by population and land coverage area. However, there is a town in Kenya that can easily surpass Nairobi in just five years time if several conditions are met.
First and far most, Kakamega Municipality to be increased to Shianda on your way to Mumias, Amalemba on your way to Kisumu and Kakamega forest on your way to Webuye. This will expand opportunities which will see massive developments within the predefined municipality area. The expansion of central business district as well, will see the town creating more space for structural developments.
Kakamega should start investing in infrastructure that promotes creation of jobs. This town is full of learned young men and women. However, these young men remains underutilized due to lack of jobs. Industrialisation, is one thing that can raise the standards of the city to a world class city. Industries are the backbone of employment which in turn can triggers local investment. Road infrastructure is also an area of focus. If the government can invest in road infrastructure so that those big interchanges, bypasses and flyovers can be brought in this town, its strategic position can attract massive foreign investments which can facelift this city to the standards of Nairobi.
Kakamega needs to build an international referral hospital with all services offered. Currently, the county government of Kakamega is finalising on the construction of Kakamega county referral hospital. Getting such hospitals can attract millions of residents to the town. Lastly, real estate should be focused on to encourage settlement. Kakamega is a populous county hence real estate is a key step that can elevate the town y the ranks of Nairobi.
