When Interior CS Fred Matiang’i appeared before the National Assembly departmental committee, he gave a list of Deputy President William Ruto’s properties and the number of security officers each had.
One of them was the DP’s Dolphine Hotel which is located in Shanzu, Mombasa County that the CS disclosed was guarded by a contingent of six officers.
The hotel, which sits on a 10-acre parcel of land, is estimated to have around 600 guest rooms and is located near Flamingo Pride Inn resort.
The hotel shared management with Weston Hotel and reportedly has a partnership with some airlines that help bring tourists directly to the hotel when they visit the country.
During its construction from 2016 to 2018 by Avco Agencies, the DP is estimated to have forked out around Ksh 600 million.
At the time, the construction was halted by the county government after residents complained that the contractor was dumping debris on a public beach. However, the impasse did not last long as the contractor continued with the construction.
Some of the other establishments owned by the DP include; Kitengela Gas Company, Murumbi Farm in Transmara (395 Hectares), ADC Laikipia Mutara Ranch, Dolphine Hotel in Mombasa (3 Hectares) and Mata Farm in Taita Taveta (1,026 Hectares).
