Government Could Lift Curfew In A Month- Tourism CS Hints

The national wide curfew that has been in place since March last year may finally be lifted in a months time.

"We are very optimistic that in a months time or so we will be able to open up," hinted Tourism and Wildlife CS Najib Balala at a media forum during the Magical Kenya Travel Expo.

This has come when the government is trying to balance the full re-opening of the Kenyan economy and containing the spread of the Covid-19 virus that has wreck havoc the economies of the world.

The CS also said that the national wide ongoing vaccination program is key for the re-opening of the economy and also boost the number of international visitors to Kenya.

During the year 2020 the economic growth rate shrunk to about -0.3 percent from a growth rate of about 5 percent during the year 2019. According to the government data collection in collaboration with the Kenya Private Sector Alliance tourism and travel were the most hit sectors where about 3.1 million jobs were affected.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Monday said that the country is yet to hit the World Health Organization recommended positivity rate of 5 percent for a consistent period of 14 days.
