History: Why Kenya Airways Is Abbreviated As "KQ" And Not "KA"

If you are a person who is ever curious to know why things are the way they are like I am, then I guess you have always wondered why the Kenya Airways is abbreviated as KQ and not KA. This used to confuse me and I decided to carry out some research.

In this article, I will share with you some of the information I got. The Kenya Airways came into existence in 1946 under the East African Community and served Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Initially it was called the East African Airways and its headquarters were in Nairobi.

With the collapse of the East African Community there was no reason for the name to stay so it changed to Kenya Airways and needed a new abbreviation. Kenya had gone for KA but was late because Korea had at that time started their aviation industry and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) had accorded them the title KA.

This meant that Kenya Airways had to look for another code and they settled for KQ. This is how the name KQ came to be. I hop you enjoyed reading the article. Like, share and follow the page for more articles daily.
