Normal Operations Resume At JKIA After Runway Cleared, Opened

The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) runway is now fully operational following an earlier mechanical failure that left an airplane stranded on the landing strip.

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), in a statement, said the runway has been cleared and opened.

“Normal operations have resumed. Passengers are encouraged to contact their respective airlines for their flight status,” said KAA.

The plane that had been stranded due to mechanical failure had prevented flights from docking and taking off.

This forced all inbound flights to the airport to be redirected to Mombasa and Dar es Salam while outbound flights were placed on hold.

“Jambo this is to confirm that the runway at JKIA had been temporarily closed as crews respond to safely remove disabled aircraft. Takeoffs and landings are on hold. Passengers are advised to check with their respective airline for flight status updates,” the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) said in a statement.
