Kakamega has been seeing tremendous growth of developments, from road infrastructures to medical infrastructures. However, not only is the Kakamega county government bracing for this changes but also private investors. One of such investments is Mwale medical and technology city. However, a French IT service firm, Atos Origin has announced plans to construct a Sh28 billion data centre at Mwale Medical and Technology City in Butere, Kakamega County. The company was ranked by Gartner as number 1 in Europe in 2020 in Cloud, Cyber security and high performance computing and the 2nd globally in the market share for cyber security in the Gatner study.
According to reports by peoples daily news site, the data centre is part of the Artificial Intelligence innovation district at the City, whose completion is earmarked for the end of 2022. Its completion will see the facility become the largest data centre in the region. The Centre is expected to propel Kenya’s status as a global technology and innovation hub and a centre for attracting foreign direct investment from multinationals.
Its good news to the people of Kakamega and Kenya at large. Kakamega county might be seeing tremendous growth in the coming days as private developers continue bracing for developments in the county.
