The Following Will Be Taking Place During The Next Six Weeks Of Internet Interruptions In Kenya

Internet is an interconnection of networks using a standardized communication protocol. Many people around the globe rely on the internet to seek information, share and even communicate with others. One can access the internet services by use of electronic devices i.e. phones, computers that links with other devices. The demand for internet services is said to be increasing day by day as the world aims at digitizing every activity. From the Kenyan 2019 statistics, internet usage climbed to 89.7% from 9.7% in 2010. The Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) is the Kenyan body responsible for administering, formulating, developing, and broadcasting of communication services. The current Cabinet Secretary for ICT is Dr. Joe Mucheru.

From the information released by the Ministry of ICT, Kenya will be experiencing a six weeks time internet disruption. During that time, the Ministry of ICT will be permanently relocating the fiber optic cable (cable which carries the internet) along the Rironi-Mau Summit road. This is being done to a pave a way for the construction of an highway expected to commerce in September this year. The highway construction will be undertaken by France and it is estimated to cost around Ksh.160 billion. According to the Principal Secretary for ICT Mr. Jerome Ochieng, 4 companies have been awarded with the tender of transferring the cables to ensure the work it's complete within the stipulated time. Also, the relocation will cost Sh450 million until it is complete. Power cables will also be relocated. All are therefore advised to get aware for a better preparations.
