President William Ruto have today launched the first ever free public Wi-Fi Hotspot in Embu County.
Speaking during SMEs, Cooperatives and Revenue Expo at Embu University today, Ruto revealed that someone have been asking him where he has not delivered on his Promise to create free public Wi-Fi Hotspot as he had promised during campaigns.
Ruto revealed that he had launched a free public Wi-Fi Hotspot around the University and another hotspot at Embu market.
"Hapa nje nimeanza Wi-Fi, pale Kwa solo Iko Wi-Fi,pale Kwa stage kutakuwa na WiFi.L iIleniliwaambia nitaweka hapa Kenya. Ile bundles haitawasumbua (I have launch free Wi-Fi outside, there is a free Wi-Fi in the market and there will be free Wi-Fi at the stage, the one I had promised to launch in Kenya. Bundles will no longer be a problem to you)," Ruto said.
"Nimeona jamaa mwingine ananiuliza mahali Fulani, wapi Ile Wi-Fi wako. Sasa nitamjibu Leo (I have seen somebody asking me, 'where is your free Wi-Fi '. Now, I will answer him today)," he added.
The president revealed that a total of 48 Wi-Fi hotspots have already been launched in Kenya.
He said that the government have a target of launching twenty five thousand (25,000) hotspots across the country.
"Tuko na mpango ya kuweka 25,000 hotspots in every parts of Kenya Ili mwanchi aweze kuendelea na kazi yake bila ya kushugulika ya kwamba Hana credit ama Hana bundles (We have a plan of launching 25,000 hotspots in every part of Kenya so that the citizens can continue with their jobs without being worried about not having bundles or credit)," Ruto said.
Ruto said that the WiFi hotspots will also help Kenyans in engaging in e-commerce. He also revealed that his government has plans to create an ICT hub in every ward in Kenya.
