Many people are wondering how on Earth did Manchester City freely sign Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips yet he is one of the most technical and proven number 6s in the Premiere League. For a club like Chelsea, failing to go after such a player raises a big question mark on the seriousness of the club to compete next season. The Blues have a strong midfield trio in Ngolo Kante, Jorginho and Matteo Kovacic but going by how they each player perfomed last season, a player like Phillips in the squad would have certainly pushed them to play better next season.
Many Chelsea fans are piling the blame on Todd Boehly who for some unknown reasons never considered Marina Granovskaia’s high recommendation to sign the 25 year old. Phillips was for a while open to joining any club next season but after Manchester City delved into the race, he lost sight of other clubs and focused on joining City.
Chelsea will have to restart their recruitment all over again after missing out on the transfer of Guul Til. The Dutchman has decided to join Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s PSV ahead of next season on a five year deal that will keep him at the club until 2027. Til had been on the radar of Thomas Tuchel and after releasing Saul Niguez back to Atletico Madrid, the 25 year old was for some time rumored to be the chosen replacement for the Spaniard.
Til has a neat track record in the Dutch Eredevise League, with his loyal fans often referring him to him as the “Wizard of Oz” because to his creativeness on the pitch. Like Saul, Til is a great technical player with a strong left foot and a pure pass accuracy, whether long or short. Finding a player like him again in the transfer market will be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
