One thing I'm excited about the Erik Ten Hag appointment will be the resurgence of Harry Maguire. If there's one system his style suits to a tee, it's his. His ball-playing ability, aerial dominance and overall defending should make him indispensable for Ten Hag going forward.
Gerard Pique has never been fast, neither has John Stones and neither were Ricardo Carvalho and Laurent Blanc. You know where they all thrived? In a high-line. They have all been countered in their careers in foot races, but high-lines are there to dominate possession.
Speed isn’t the only thing but that’s his biggest weakness bar the fact that he has no agility cannot read the game and doesn’t anticipate danger. Ball knowledge in the absolute awesome if you think being able to run fast is the way you judge ability to play in a high line.
Harry will play his best football under ETH. People are too filled with hate to see this. However, some of us believe that both are getting sold. We aren't a club to get peoples career back on track. Henderson to Newcastle most likely and I don't know where Maguire will go but he simply isn't premier league quality let alone playing for a top 6 club.
Ruben Dias and John Stones don't suit defending in a high line yet they still do incredible. The premise of a high line is so you can dictate possession more. Hopefully, under ETH you should expect United to have the brunt of possession.
They have walker to cover them also who is rapid, it is important we get a quick RB who is familiar at CB and can help cover the back line . Timber, I'm sure there are others but that type player is what we need. The reason Harry is so good for England is in part due to Walker.
I honestly don’t expect us to play the possession game unless he has about 4-5 first team ins/outs. Ralf has said it from day 1, we need to control the game which I feel if RR couldn’t do it. Some people doubt ETH won’t be able to unless he has 2-3 windows to build his vision.
Outside of Trent, Cancelo, Dias, and Stones, Maguire has the most passes into the final third per 90 as well having an insanely high pass completion. Not to mention he also completes the most progressive passes for United per 90 and has done since his arrival.
