When it comes to world sports,Kenya is known mainly because of Athletics,Rugby and Football.To many,it is just Kenyans but when narrowed down most of the successful sportsmen in the country have been Luhyas.Take for example football where the household names are the Wanyama brothers Victor and Macdonald Mariga.Mariga is the only Kenyan till date to win the champions league title while Wanyama is the only Kenyan to play in the English premier league.The same is the case for Rugby where the most successful players in the sport have been Luhyas.
The most notable names here are Collins Injera and Humprey Khayange.Injera and Khayange led Kenya to its one and only world championship victory back in 2016.Injera is second in number of tries made in world rugby while Khayange was recently inducted into the world rugby hall of fame for his illustrious career.In Athletics,the current star man is Ferdinand Omnayala also a Luhya from Kitale.Yesterday in Mauritious,he became the African champion in 100 meter race with a record time of 9.93 seconds after winning gold.
