Qatar Lost Again, But Has the Host Country Ever Been Knocked out of the World Cup at Group Stage?

Qatar had to wait 4,371 days to play their first World Cup match at home after being announced by FIFA as the hosts of the 2022 tournament on 2 December 2010.

And now, in just nine days, the long-awaited tournament is over, so to speak.

Qatar lost 2-0 to Ecuador in the opening match of the 2022 World Cup.

So they needed to do well in the second match of the tournament against reigning African champions Senegal.

However, despite their improved performance, Qatar lost again, losing 3 to 1 and nearly being knocked out of their own tournament at the first hurdle. But are the hosts definitely out? And are they in danger of becoming the worst host nation in the tournament's 92-year history?

Qatar are bottom of Group A with 0 points in his second loss, while the Netherlands and Ecuador have 4 and Senegal have 3.

Qatar were able to beat the Netherlands in their last match, but cannot overtake them. They can't overtake Ecuador either, and if Senegal beat Ecuador to take second place on him, Qatar won't be able to catch up to them either.

Third place is the best result Qatar can expect right now.
