Three Players Ole Gunner Solskjaer Can Use as Temporary Centre Backs To Replace Maguire and Varane

Manchester United is currently in an injury crisis as both their first-choice centre backs are currently injured. Harry Maguire was injured just before the international break while Raphael Varane was injured while playing for France in the UEFA nations league final. Manchester United confirmed that it might be a few weeks before the two are back on the pitch. This leaves Ole Gunner Solskajaer with only Erick Bailly and Victor Lindelof as the only fit senior centre backs. However, the pair has a very bad record playing together having lost four of the six matches that they have played together.

However with this crisis, Manchester United has a number of utility players who Ole gunner Can convert into centre backs to cover for the injured pair. Their upcoming run of matches is a very tough one which requires Ole to have a good defence. Here is an analysis of three players who Ole can easily convert to being centre backs should need to be;

Scott Mctominay

The Scottland international plays as a centre back for the Scotland national team hence playing him as a centre back at Manchester United should not be a surprise as he has all the features of a central defender. His ability to tackle is very high as is his aerial deulity. His height also happens to favour him as he only comes second to Harry Maguire in terms of height at Manchester United. His performance as a central defender with the Scottland national team has been very good to an extent of some pundits question why Ole Gunner has never given him a chance to play as a centre back.

Aaron Wan Bissaka

The Guardian reported early in the season that manchester had been training Aaron Wan Bissaka to play as a central defender but this quickly vanished after the signing of Raphael Varane. However with Varane now injured it might give Ole a chance to try him.

Nemanja Matic

The Serbian midfielder has the right experience and leadership skills to be able to guide the manchester United defence in the absence of their captain Harry Maguire. His defensive ability has never been in doubt having played as a defensive midfielder for more than a decade.
