Premier League

Arteta's silent assassin, a perfect remedy to Arsenal's recurring flaw.

After Arsenal's recent win, much has been said about who impressed them the most, with many highlighting what a true gem Emile Smith Rowe is, but looking back at the strategy for that Aston Villa game going forward, Arteta may have just solved one puzzle, the midfield puzzle, which has been troubling Arteta since the Tottenham game when Xhaka was injured.

Most notably, Albert Lokonga Sambi is quickly emerging as a viable solution to Arsenal's midfield woes. Despite the fact that much of his work went unnoticed, Lokonga brought his unrivaled enthusiasm and energy to Arsenal's shaky midfield against Villa, tackling through Aston Villa players, intercepting their through balls, and even bursting forward to try out Emi Martinez at one point. If Arteta was unsure about which midfield pivot to select, he must now trust Lokonga and Partey for his mission to win, as the two arguably know how to cover each other's tracks and keep possession rather than losing it as Partey did against Palace in a lone defensive midfielder role.

Furthermore, Lokonga retained his position and did not abandon Partey to cover for an ever-absent Kieran Tierney at left back, as has been the recent trend. I'm not a fortune teller, but if Lokonga is trusted and given the run going forward, Arteta may have another undroppable by the end of the season.

Is it time to marvel at Lokonga and appreciate Edu and Arteta's other perfect summer deal?
