European Club Sack Manager After Missing Out On Champions League Football

Serie A side Napoli have parted ways with their head coach Gennaro Gattusso following last night's 1-1 draw against Verona that saw them finish in the fifth position of the league table and hence, failing to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League.

Confirming the decision, official statement from the club's owner Aurelio De Laurentiis read (via twitter): "Dear Rino, I am happy to have spent almost two seasons with you. Thanking you for your work, I wish you success wherever you go. A hug to your wife and children too. Aurelio De Laurentiis."

Gennaro Gattusso was appointed Napoli head coach back in December, 2019, replacing Carlo Ancellotti and he has since then been a huge revelation at the club, with him steering them to the 2020 Coppa Italia glory besides clinching a number of top victories that saw them close to securing the Champions League football.

However, things did not turn out as expected on the final match day as Juventus' 4-1 win against Bologna saw them miss out on the top four slot by a single point and hence, forcing the club to make the harsh decision on him.
