Rosenborg gave up the title contention with a desperate three loss thread and they will be desperate to bring it to an end on Wednesday afternoon when Haugesund come to visit Lerkendal Stadion.
The hosts promised a serious battle for the throne with a strong start to the 2021 Eliteserien campaign, but they dropped in form heavily in the last couple of weeks.
Rosenborg failed to find the back of the net in the last two games and they will go into this clash off the back of three successive defeats.
The latest of the failures came on Friday when Age Hareide’s troops were powerless against the recently promoted Lillestrom, losing 2-0 on the road.
To make things worse, Rosenborg will now face an inform Haugesund side, a team that has kept back-to-back clean sheets in straight home wins over Kristiansund and Brann.
The manager Jostein Grindhaug seems to have found a winning formula for keeping things tight defensively with his team and there are no doubts that Haugesund’s improved four man defensive line will represent a serious challenge for the non inspiring attack of Rosenborg’s.
Rosenborg vs Haugesund Head to head
Rosenborg have been much more successful historically in this match up, especially in Trondheim where they’ve won 12 of the last 16 clashes against Haugesund.
However, the visitors have been a much tougher opposition for Rosenborg in the last several years as it’s Haugesund who have won three of the last four head to head encounters overall.
It is also worth mentioning that none of the last eight head to head affairs between the two outfits ended with four or more goals scored.
Haugesund could even move level on points with Rosenborg at the sky high 6th place of the Eliteserien standings with a victory here. We believe the visitors could well take advantage of the momentum and pull off an upset at Lerkendal Stadion, especially since they’ve already won three of the last four clashes against Rosenborg.
