Manchester United have managed to finish in the top four for the second season in a row since Sir Alex Ferguson was at the helm. They are also in the Europa League final where they are due to face Villarreal. This has been a steady progress from Ole Gunner Solskjaer who promised progress when he took over.
They managed to push Champions Manchester City to the last week of the season and have managed to finish second. Last season they finished third. Due to that improvement pundits and critics have had to swallow humble pie and admit they were wrong to misjudge this United side. One of those is former United player and legend Gary Neville.
He has been quite vocal when it comes to United. And after United were thrashed 6-1 by Spurs at the beginning, he came out to state that United were never going to finish in European positions. He fancied Leicester, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, City, Liverpool and Everton to finish above United.
However, United have rallied to finish the season strongly. Neville has come out and admitted to have been wrong. He said, "I am one of those who will admit to have been wrong. United have surprised me this season and they have proven me wrong."
He went on to offer advice to Solskjaer on how to catch City next season. He said, "United need to invest in quality additions so as to compete with Liverpool, City and Chelsea. If they do that they will be closer yo the championship than they are now."
Do you agree with him? Have United overachieved this season since they were expected to fail?
