UPDATE: Sports CS Namwamba Attends Burial of First Kenyan Olympic Medal Winner in Kericho

A host of sporting legends among them Kipchoge Keino and David Rudishada are in attendance to pay their last respect to Late Sports Veteran in Kericho County.

Youth Affairs & Sports CS Ababu Namwamba has arrived in Kericho County to attend the burial ceremony of the late Wilson Chumo Kiprugut, who died aged 84.

The Kenya's first ever Olympic Games medalist died on 2nd November 2022 aged 84.

Kiprugut wrote his name in Kenya's history books for being the first Kenyan to win an Olympic medal.

Kiprugut achieved the fete in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, winning a Bronze medal in the 800 metres category.

Later in the 1968 Mexico Olympics Games, Kiprugut again won an Olympics silver medal to usher in an era of Kenya's dominance in the global athletics arena.

He was recognised as a Kenyan Sports personality of the year and the Hall of Fame Award winner in 2020.
