After winning 4-3 in their match today, Atalanta F.C will play in the champions league next season. It is now official after this freescoring club put 4 past Genoa to confirm their participation in next season's European Premier competition.
They currently occupy second place with 78points having played 37 matches, only one to go. Position 4 is occupied by Juventus who are playing Inter Milan at the time of writing. Juve are on 72 points with a single match left to play excluding the ongoing one. Mathematically, even if Juve win all their remaining matches, they can only have a total of 78points, and Atalanta would edge them out by rule of better head to head.
WHO IS LIKELY TO MISS OUT?
Unless a miracle happens and Napoli stumble, then Juventus are the one who will finish outside top four and embarassingly settle for Europa League next season. If they beat Inter Milan in the ongoing match, they will have better chances as Ac Milan still have a match with Atalanta in the final day which means points will be dropped in some way.
Juventus have been champions of Italy in the past nine seasons and it would be devastatingly disappointing if they missed out on champions league.
Atalanta can now focus their attention to the coppa italia final on 19th May against Juventus.
