Arteta Closest To Dream Midfielder Swoop: Club Waiting On Arsenal's Approach

Will this transfer saga ever end with Arthur Melo's move to Arsenal? Arsenal came close to signing the Brazilian midfielder in January, but Juventus pulled the plug at the last minute. Arsenal were expected to renew their pursuit of Melo this summer.

According to Sport Witness, Juventus is looking to reduce their wage bill, and Melo's €5 million a year salary is one of the wages they want to eliminate. According to the report, Juventus is "waiting" for Arsenal and any other suitor to approach them about Melo's services.

Arsenal's interest in Melo appears to have waned, but this could be due to Arsenal's lack of focus on strengthening their defensive midfield. Arsenal's current priority is to sign Raphinha (an attacker) and Lisandro Martinez (a defender). There is speculation that Arsenal will sign a defensive midfielder this summer, and given the situation at Juventus, they may be able to get Melo on the cheap. It is worth noting that Arsenal's failure to sign a defensive midfielder this summer could be a major setback.
