Just months after the country lost top athlete Agnes Tirop who was found dead in her house. Today the country has been hit by sad news again after another female athlete announced dead after battle with chronic illness.

Monicah Chirchir who was 2019 African Games 10,000m finalist is said to have succumbed to colon cancer at Baringo Hospital on Saturday December 11th.

The athlete is said to have fought with the terminal illness for over a year now before her unfortunate demise. Athletics Kenya President Jackson Tuwei regretted that the young athlete died during the time her career was taking another shape.

Her assistant coach Ian Kiprono noted that she was given permission to halt training and focus on her treatment when she was diagnosed with colon cancer. The deceased sister Charity Chirchir said it was regrettable that the athlete had passed on at a time when a bright future lay ahead of her. "She was doing well until she started feeling unwell and it was later confirmed that it was cancer," Charity said
