Akhona Makalima: The African female referee accredited by FIFA

Akhona Makalima is a female referee who was born and raised in the poor slums of Eastern Cape. Akhona had passion for playing football, but due to shortage of resources, refereeing became an option despite being a human resources management graduate. She nominated and accredited by FIFA to officiate the premier soccer league, South African football association and the Women's League.

The baby whistle has been in profession for ten years, and she has officiated the Continent's biggest tournament such as CAF confederation cup Champions League. Since Makalima is an elite referee, she has been nominated as a candidate to officiate the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia /New Zealand in 2023.

Being a female referee is quite challenging, but the South African she-ref mean her business and know how to bring players together on the pitch. To even make her adorable, Akhona has a sublime heart and is a soft-spoken person who loves treats everyone on and off the pitch with utmost respect.
