Former Chelsea and Dutch international legend, Rudd Gullit, has had his fair thought of whom should win the Balon d'Or between the Blues midfield duo of N'Golo Kante and Jorginho. He further criticized the fact that only goal scorers are favourites to win the mist coveted individual award, citing Italian icon Franco Baresi, who had a stellar reputation, but was unlucky to clinch the individual honour due to his lack of goals.
The 59 year old former midfielder speaking in an interview said that, "Its a little like Baresi's story. Despite his talent, he was unable to win the Balon d'Or. Goalscorers are always the stats of the show. It would be wonderful if someone who is not in the spotlight could win once in a while. Someone like N'Golo (Kante) deserves it because he performed so well."
The Frenchman has established himself as one of the key figures with the Blues and the France national team helping to reach greater heights. After single handedly helped Chelsea to lift the UCL title last year, he became the favourite to win the award but his unsuccessful Euros with France saw his midfield partner at Chelsea leapfrog him as the favourite after the successful Euro 2020 triumph over England.
Between Kante and Jorginho, whom do you back for the Balon d'Or accolade?
