FIFA World Cup

Enner Valencia leads Ecuador to a 2-0 victory over Qatar on the first day of the World Cup.

Equador began the 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup on a high note, defeating hosts Qatar 2-0 in the opening match at the Al Bayt stadium on Sunday.

Enner Valencia of Fenerbahce was therefore the guy who pushed his home club higher with all tries and goals, putting Equador ahead of the hosting squad.

Enner Valencia thought he had given Ecuador the lead in the third minute, but his effort was ruled out for offside. Valencia then won a penalty in the 15th minute after being fouled in the penalty area by Qatar goalkeeper Saad Al Sheeb.

Valencia scored the first goal of the Qatar 2022 World Cup from twelve yards out. As a result, he is Ecuador's all-time leading scorer in the FIFA World Cup.

Enner Valencia headed into the bottom left corner at 31 minutes to double Ecuador's lead. The South Americans started their campaign with three crucial points against the hosts, Qatar.
