The 25-year-old has 31 senior caps for Uruguay under his belt.
He was loaned out to Atletico Madrid last season and made 26 appearances in all competitions for Diego Simeone’s side, helping them win the LaLiga title.
Torreira had also been linked with Roma and Lazio over the summer, but Fiorentina swooped in over the last few days.
Torreira still has two-years on his Arsenal contract although Arsenal will no doubt be trying to secure as much cash for him at this stage, perhaps with an obligation to buy beeded into the contract.
The Uruguay international is expected to complete the transfer on loan for €1m with an option to buy for a further €15m at the end of the 2021-22 campaign.
He has made 89 appearances for Arsenal during his time in north London, scoring four and assisting six.
The Gunners really need to get better at selling players. The move for Granit Xhaka to Roma fell through before they have him a hefty new deal. And now they’re stuck with Torreira, albeit he’s going away for another 12 months.
Torreira was an instant hit with me and many Arsenal fans when he came to the club in 2018 from Sampdoria. He brought that bite and tenacity in the center of the park that the club sorely needed.
The combative midfielder looks set to move to Fiorentina but crucially, the Serie A side have agreed to pay all of his wages for the season. That should represent a significant saving for the Gunners over the course of the deal.
