Tegla Chepkite Loroupe is a retired long-distance track and road runner from Kenya.She broke the record for being the first black African woman to win the famous New York City Marathon.She won in the years 1994 and 1995.

Today, the family of the former athlete has announced the demise of one of them, Tegla's father.The Deputy President, William Samoei Ruto also took to his Twitter pages to mourn the death of Mr Loroupe.
He stated that his prayers and thoughts are with the family of Mr Abraham Plilan Loroupe, father to the renowned long-distance athelete and peace ambassador following the loss of their dear father.
